Latvian airline airBaltic and Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa have announced the expansion of their existing codeshare agreement on flights between Riga (Latvia) and Frankfurt (Germany), enabling improved transit connectivity for passengers traveling via Frankfurt to onward Lufthansa destinations, strengthening Latvia’s global connectivity.
From December 17, 2025, Lufthansa will place its LH code on airBaltic-operated flights between Riga and Frankfurt, while airBaltic will place its BT code on Lufthansa-operated flights on the same route. The codeshare will apply only to transit flights via Frankfurt – one of Europe’s leading hubs – connecting Latvia to Lufthansa’s extensive global network. The tickets are already available for purchase on both airlines’ websites.
Mantas Vrubliauskas, VP Network Management at airBaltic: “Since launching our codeshare cooperation with Lufthansa in 2020, we have steadily expanded the opportunities it creates for our passengers. This next step strengthens our shared commitment to making global travel more seamless and accessible. By opening even more gateways to the world, we continue to reinforce our role as the leading airline in the Baltics and contribute to Latvia’s growing international presence, business potential, and tourism appeal.”
airBaltic and Lufthansa have maintained a codeshare partnership since December 2020, covering flights from its bases in Riga, Tallinn (Estonia) and Vilnius (Lithuania) to Munich (Germany), strengthening connectivity from the Baltic States to more destinations across Germany via Lufthansa’s extensive network.
Over the past 30 years, airBaltic has evolved into a globally respected carrier. Now the airline is connecting the Baltic States to 80 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region, providing essential infrastructure and global connectivity for the region.
